DESCRIPTION:Lake Hills Church is excited to announce our Community Christmas Store. This store is an opportunity for families in our community\, especially those directly affected by the hurricane\, to be able to provide their children with a Christmas gift this season no matter their financial situation. \nOn Saturday\, December 7th from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.\, parents are invited to shop for amazing Christmas gifts for their kids at no cost to them. Parents must register ahead of time and select one of our one-hour time slots. DESCRIPTION:No one was truly prepared for the physical devastation that Hurricane Helene would bring to our area. As we continue to clean up and begin to rebuild\, we know the physical things are only one part of the restoration that needs to take place. The last several weeks have been scary\, heavy\, overwhelming\, daunting\, and so much more for everyone. Everybody has been affected by this storm in some way and we want to begin to help those who are still struggling to begin to process and cope with the trauma they have faced. \nLake Hills Church is honored to be able to host “Beyond Disaster\,” a trauma care training for spiritual first aid. Beyond disaster is a training created by Water Mission\, an organization that has brought some incredible help to our community since the disaster through water filtration and so much more. They have been working in every corner of our towns\, and we are so grateful for their partnership in WNC! \nThe Beyond disaster training will be useful for two reasons. First\, this training will help people personally begin to process through feelings and grief that have come up since the hurricane. In addition\, this training will equip those who are looking to help others that are working through hard emotions. \nBeyond Disaster offers practical resources based on Christian principles to share with anyone that could use help with working through their experiences and feelings from the last several weeks. From this training people can begin to share the resources with others and begin to talk through the topics covered together in small groups. \n  \nThis training is ideal for: \n\nThose personally affected\nTeachers\nParents and Caretakers\nChurch and Community Leaders\nFirst Responders\nand more…\n\n  \nIn the wake of Helene\, the journey to restoration and recovery is long. DESCRIPTION:We are excited to join with one of our mission partners\, One More Child\, for a mission trip to Guatemala this fall. \nOne More Child is  working to fight the epidemic of malnutrition in Guatemala by providing adequate nutrition\, meeting educational needs\, and ministering to vulnerable children and struggling families. \nThis trip is open to anyone 13 years old and older. (Any minor must be joined by a parent on the trip. We would love to see families serving together.) On this 7-day trip\, you will have the opportunity to lead Bible stories at offsite ministries\, assist with current building projects\, pass out food baskets in the community\, and more. Read the information below and prayerfully consider if the Lord might be calling you to join our team. Spots are limited so if you are interested in going\, we strongly encourage you to sign up as soon as you can. \n\nWhen? November 2-8\, 2024\nHow much? DESCRIPTION:ServeNC is an opportunity for every NC Baptist church to love its community in Jesus’ name through service projects. \nWe are excited to join in this effort with NC Baptists and Baptist on Mission and commit to being on mission together and display the gospel during the week of Aug. 3-10\, 2024. SUMMARY:Parenting & Technology Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Technology has become such an integral part of our society. It’s impossible to avoid. It can be scary and daunting to try to understand how everything works\, what apps your child should be using\, what boundaries to set\, what dangers to look out for\, and more. So many parents find themselves in this same boat which is why Lake Hills Church is so excited to provide this workshop as a resource for YOU! \nJoin us on Sunday\, February 25th from 5:00-7:00 p.m. as we talk about the positives (yes\, there are positives) and negatives of technology. We’ll provide tangible resources for you to start implementing right away. Our goal is that this night will not only be helpful\, but that you will leave hopeful. There is light in the fog of all that technology brings and we hope that you will be able to see that a little brighter after our evening together. \nParents of children from birth to high school will have the opportunity to attend two different breakout sessions of their choice to learn from experts and feel equipped to help their children safely navigate technology. \n\nSchedule for the Evening\n5:00-5:20 p.m. Welcome and Opening Session\n5:30-6:10 p.m. Breakout Session ONE\n6:20- 7:00 p.m. Breakout Session TWO \n\nThere will be light refreshments available during each session. Free childcare provided!\n \nThis event is FREE\, but please register by February 21st to secure a spot. \nBelow is a list of the topics that will be discussed in these breakout sessions. You will likely get something from any of the sessions you attend but beside each topic we have indicated if it is more geared towards teens\, kids\, or all ages.\n  \n\nSafety with Technology: (All ages) Topics include setting limits for your child\, how to keep them safe from predators\, and more.\n\n\nSocial Media 101: (Teens) Social media seems to be engrained in our children lives as much as almost anything. From connecting with friends and expressing themselves digitally\, to cyber bullying and rampant temptation. Social media can be an incredible resource but is can also a tool that negatively impacts on our mind and spirit. In this breakout\, we will gain understanding of what social media apps provide – both negative and positive aspects\, and what apps to stay clear of.\n\n\nTechnology\, Self Confidence\, and Relationships: (Teens) Today\, our children and teens are growing up in an age of TECHNOLOGY\, high social media demands\, and immediate access to information\, and people.What can we do as parents to show our Children that true worth and value come from Christ and not social media? How can we teach our children the value and need of real-life community? What can we do as parents to walk alongside our children in a world that consumes their attention?\nIn our breakout Technology\, Self-Confidence\, and Relationships\, we are going to dive into these questions and more to help combat the lies our teens hear and face on a daily basis.\n\n\nHow to talk to your kids about pornography: (All Ages) In this breakout session\, parents will be provided the exact language to use to initiate a pornography prevention conversation in their own home. Preventing pornography exposure is a critical topic to get right\, early in our children lives. We will discuss the message\, and the reasons why to have this conversation in a way that both parents and children will hear.\n\n\nEnding the War: Parenting strategies for setting boundaries\, resolving conflict\, and peacefully communicating about technology: (All Ages) Learn tools to manage the major parenting challenges with managing technology in your family.\n\n\nHealthy Child Development and Technology: (Kids) How much screen time is too much? Learn the benefits and drawbacks in each stage of development. We couldn’t make Sunday services happen without all our dedicated volunteers. \nWe are looking to add new members to this team and further train current members.
